Nationals Results - The Jitsu foundation Randori Nationals were held on the 1st/2nd March, and The Archway Jiu-Jitsu club team did extremely well, coming away with a number of medals, as follows:
• Nage Waza Male Light Blue Belt middleweight category - Silver for Marcelo Bayas
• Nage Waza Female Brown Belt lightweight category - Silver for Rosie Smith
• Gatame Waza Male Orange Belt lightweight category - Silver for Anthony Walker

Nationals Results - The 2007 Jitsu Foundation national atemi competition was held this weekend, and the team from Archway did extremely well. Particular congratulations go to Leon Louis who won the gold medal in the novice category. This is a fantastic achievement considering over 400 jitsuka were entered in this category. Further congratulations go to Natasha Wood and Wan-Yin Tiaw who reached the semi finals of the novice category, to Anthony Walker who reached the final of the orange belt category and Toby Speight who reached the final of the light blue category and achieved the bronze medal in the BUSA competition.

Junior Nationals Results - Well done to the Archway Jiu-Jitsu club under-18s who went to the Junior Atemi nationals yesterday, and came away with two trophies. Steven Brooks secured second place in the big kids purple belt category and Joe Gaskell won first place in the big kids light blue and above category. Congratulations go to both.

Jitsuka of the Year - Congratulations go to Gemma Regan who is Archway Jiu-Jitsu club's jitsuka of the year for 06/07. Gemma has had a very successful year, after winning medals in both the Atemi and the Randori nationals, and gaining her light blue belt.

Additional sessions - We are pleased to announce that starting on the 31st August, Archway Jitsu club is moving to three sessions a week, with an additional session every friday from 7pm to 9pm. The new weekly timetable is as follows:
Sundays 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Wednesdays 8:00pm - 10:00pm
Fridays 7:00pm - 9:00pm

New Instructor - We are pleased to announce that Sensei Rosie Smith will be joining Archway Jitsu club as an instructor on a permanent basis. Rosie has been involved in Archway jitsu club since the very first session 3 years ago and is now taking on a teaching role at the club. Rosie will be taking on responsibility for all the juniors and will be looking to grow the club in that direction.

Nationals Results - The Jitsu foundation Randori Nationals were held on the 10th/11th March, and The Archway Jiu-Jitsu club team came away with a number of medals that placed us fourth overall in the club rankings, our highest finish ever. Here are the medal winners from Archway:

Shodan grading results - Congratulations to Matthew Shepherd from our sister club of City Jitsu, who graded to 1st Dan (Shodan) last weekend at the first ever TJF winter black belt grading. He was also awarded the 'top dan' from the day's grading, which is a fantastic achievement.

Change to session fees for under 18s - From the start of 2007, the session fees for under 18's are reduced from £4 per session to £2 per session to bring in line with the cost for under 16's. The cost for Adults remains unchanged at £4 per session.

Christmas Closing - The furnival building will be closed between Christmas and new years, and so there will be no Jitsu sessions. The last session of the year will be Wednesday 20th December. The first session of the new year will be Wednesday 3rd January

Nationals Results - Well done to everyone from Archway Jiu-Jitsu club who took part in the Atemi Nationals last weekend, especially to Yohei Morimoto for reaching the finals of the Orange belt category and for Gemma Regan for achieving bronze medal in the purple belt category.

London Jitsu celebration - This year is the twentieth anniversary of the first Jitsu Foundation club in London. To celebrate, the region is holding a special regional course on the 2nd December, followed by a black-tie ball in the evening. All london Jitsuka and instructors, past and present, are invited to come along and take part in this momentous occasion. The course will be held 10:30am-3:30pm at the London Nautical school, Waterloo. The ball is 7pm-3:30am at the new Connaught rooms, Covent Garden. Cost for the ball and course is £49 (£42 concessions).

Jitsuka of the Year - The award for Archway Jitsuka of the year was presented last weekend at the club anniversary session. There were two joint winners this year - Chris Dickinson and Roja Kerr. Congratulations go to both.

Archway Jiu-Jitsu club anniversary - Archway Jiu-Jitsu club will be celebrating two years of Jitsu in a special anniversary session on the bank holiday Sunday, 27th August from 6pm-8pm. The session will be followed by food and drink in the nearby Archway Tavern, and we will announce the winner of the 'Jitsuka of the Year' award for this year. All are welcome to join us for this special occasion.

Nationals Results - Congratulations to the Archway team who took part in the Jitsu foundation national judo competition, Especially to Yohei Morimoto, who got gold in the novice heavyweight category, Chris Dickinson who got gold in the Orange belt middleweight category, Corinna Wood for 4th place in the yellow belt heavyweight category and Donal O'Connor for 4th place in the green belt middleweight category.

Nationals Results - Well done to the Archway Team who took part in the Jitsu Foundation Atemi Nationals last weekend. Everyone put in a sterling performance and did extremely well despite being horrificly hungover! Special mention goes to Chris and Rory, who both made it to the semi-finals of their categories.

Charity Wristbands - In memory of Shihan Brian Graham who passed away this year, The Jitsu Foundation has commissioned charity wristbands in red and white - The colours of the Shihan's belt. These wristbands cost £2 each with all proceeds going to support three charities that the Shihan and his family have links with: Cancer research UK, Leeds General Infirmary ICU and the Junior Jitsu Foundation. These wristbands will be available to buy at forthcoming events including the Nationals.

Archway Jiu-Jitsu club anniversary - It is almost a year since Archway Jiu-Jitsu club first opened its doors and to celebrate this, we will be holding a special FREE anniversary session on sunday the 28th August from 6pm-8pm. This will be followed by drinks and food at the Archway Tavern, where we will announce the winner of the coveted trophy for Jitsuka of the year.

Some tragic news - It is with great sadness that we report that Shihan Brian Graham passed away yesterday following complications that set in after an operation. Shihan Graham was the head of our Jiu-Jitsu style and was responsible for bringing it to this country. He was an excellent teacher and outstanding martial artist who was highly respected by all his students. He will be sorely missed.

New club opening - Sensei Gesa Brinkmann is starting up her own club in Shoreditch. The club will start with one session a week on Monday evenings at the Sports Centre next to Hackney Community College, Shoreditch. The first session is on Monday the 9th of May, and she would appreciate as many jitsuka as possible turning up for this session. For more information, visit www.shoreditchjitsu.org.uk

Competition Results - This weekend saw the 2005 Jitsu Foundation national Judo competition in Birmingham. There was a good peformance from all Archway competitors and congratulations go to Richard Salmon, who secured bronze medal in the novice heavyweight category.

Syllabus Review - The Jitsu Foundation have introduced some minor changes to the syllabus as part of their ongoing syllabus review. Changes include more ground-fighting, more Japanese terms and some adjustment of which techniques apply at which grade. The new syllabus can be obtained from the Jitsu Foundation Website.

Change to Session Times - Starting in January 2005, the session times at Archway Jiu-Jitsu club are changing to the following:
Wednesdays 8:00pm - 10:00pm
Sundays 6:00pm - 8:00pm
The last session of 2004 will be Monday 20th December. The first session of the new year will be Wednesday 5th January, with Sunday sessions commencing on the 9th January. There will be no Monday night sessions from January 2005

Nationals results - Congratulations to Koko for an incredible performance at last weekend's national atemi competition in Birmingham, where he won the silver medal in the orange belt category. This is a fantastic achievement. The london region as a whole did exceptionally well in securing nearly a dozen medals including gold, silver and bronze in the open competition.

Future Developments - From January it is looking increasingly likely that the monday night session at Archway will be moving to wednesdays 8pm-10pm instead. This is subject to confirmation in the near future. There is also the possibility that a second weekly session will be confirmed for Sundays 6pm-8pm. Watch out for more announcements nearer the time.

Grading results - Congratulations to everyone who went for the grading at the weekend - The standard was extremely high and most candidates passed this grading. London now has a number of new blue belts including one dark blue belt - Emily Butler.

Feedback from the Pre-Grading - The feedback from Sensei Nicola Price from last Saturday's pre-grading was mostly positive, although there are some areas of the technical syllabus that could do with some work.
