Matthew Phillips
Age: 30
Grade: Senior Primary Instructor
Started Jitsu: 1999
 
Sensei Mat Phillips is the main instructor at Archway Jiu-Jitsu club. He is a black belt (1st dan) and has been studying
Jiu-Jitsu for eleven years.
He started training in Jiu-Jitsu whilst at university in Leeds, under sensei Tony Gill.
After graduating, he moved back to London, where he continued training at
City Jitsu Club under sensei Peter Hamer
before starting Archway Jiu-Jitsu club after qualifying as an instructor in 2004.
 
Rosie Smith
Age: 29
Grade: Primary Instructor
Started Jitsu: 2003
 
Sensei Rosie Smith is a black belt (1st dan) and has been studying jiu-jitsu for seven and a half years.
Before joining Archway as an instructor in August 2007, she trained at City Jitsu Club under sensei Peter Hamer.
She is currently on sabbatical in Germany.
 
Marcelo Bayas
Age: 21
Grade: Acting Primary Instructor
Started Jitsu: 2006
 
Sensei Marcelo Bayas is the juniors (under-18s) instructor at Archway Jiu-Jitsu club, and has been doing Jiu-Jitsu for four and half years.
He joined Archway as a novice when he was 17 years old and trained under sensei Matthew Phillips. Later on he was also taught by sensei Rosie Smith.
He qualified as an instructor in December 2009 and joined the instructors team at Archway.
 
Jakub Juszczyk
Age: 32
Grade: Acting Primary Instructor
Started Jitsu: 2007
 
Sensei Jakub Juszczyk started his martial arts career in his native Poland where he achieved a senior grade in another style of JuJitsu.
After moving to the UK, he joined Archway jitsu club and quickly worked his way back up through the ranks from white belt, finally achieving
his Jitsu Foundation brown belt and qualifying as an instructor in December 2009.
